Origin: Tandanus catfish can be found throughout the Murray-Darling system and east of the Great Dividing Range from South of Sydney to the North of Cairns.
Description: Tandanus catfish have a distinctive eel like tail, scaleless skin and whiskers around their mouth. Their dorsal and pectoral fins have strong venomous spines. Adult fish are usually brownish-green, mottled with yellow, brown and darker green and have whitish belly. Catfish less than 30cm are usually mottled grey.

Food Items: Tandanus Catfish are carnivores. In their natural habitat they feed on insect larvae, prawns, yabbies, small fish, fresh water mussels, insects and snails. In the aquarium they will eat shrimp pellets, frozen or live brine shrimp and blood worms, premium quality flake food, frozen beef heart and earth worms
Temperament: They are peaceful towards fish that they can't fit into their mouths. Juveniles tend to form aggregations, but they become more solitary as they mature.
Compatibility: Compatible with large size community fish e.g. Cichlid or other Australian natives, although the preferred aquarium environment is to keep them on their own or as a pair providing they have grown up together as fingerlings
